As many of you know, I really like to sew (and apparently I've been reading way too many Dr. Seuss books). Well, I've been having a little bit of fun with my sewing machine this fall and thought I'd share a few of my favorite projects. Growing up, my mom made a lot of my dresses and taught me how to sew and now I totally understand why she did that.
When LadyBear was born, I wanted to make her a special outfit for her newborn photo shoot that would honor my wonderful Mother and my also wonderful Mother-In-Law. I am truly blessed to have these two ladies as my mommy mentors.
My grandmother made my mother's wedding dress many years ago, but thankfully my mother still had some of the scraps left from it and I immediately called dibs on the leftover lace. This lace is beautiful and closely resembles the lace cutouts on my own wedding dress. Thankfully, I had enough to make a skirt and some embellishments on her headpiece with even a tad leftover for any future projects.
The satin rosette and lace flower on the headpiece came from my mother-in-law's wedding dress along with the lace cutout on the back of LadyBear's onesie.
The outfit is not perfect, but I am happy with it and was thankful that it fit LadyBear (I made it before she was born)!!
My other project had some assistance from LittleBear, who always wants to know what I am working on and asked if he could help this time. I told him I wanted to make Christmas outfits for he and sister and showed him pictures of what I had in mind. He immediately said, "I can help you pick the fabric out at JoAnns" and so off to the fabric store we went. I'll admit I was a little nervous because I am usually really particular with my projects, but he was so excited and wanted to help so badly that I let my own particular-ness go...and I'm so glad I did.
He chose three prints: one light green with darker green diamonds (his "suspenders"), one red shimmery fabric with gold swirls and his favorite (his "tie"), a really busy red and green print with snowflakes, Christmas trees and bears wearing scarves. He asked me every day until I was finished if I was done yet and was so proud of his shirt that he didn't want to take it off after the pictures were taken....very cute.
I don't get to sew as much as I'd like, but I am thankful that I get to do it at all :) These two are really fun to make things for!!
